It's coming at a good time-- Hendrik has been running a low fever off and on since yesterday morning, and today I got him to open his mouth just long enough to catch a glimpse of the fourth 2-year molar beginning to poke through. These teeth are just horrendous for him. We're ready to be done for a while.
Our transition to me being back at work is going ok. For me it's been fine. My sub did a great job, and I can just pick right up where she left off. I'm tired, but that's why there's coffee! Life hasn't been too much different for Dirk, but he gets fewer texts and phone calls from me during the day. He might call that a positive change, hee hee.
It has been more of an adjustment for the boys. Hendrik loves being around the other kids and plays so hard he doesn't nap. Boo. So we either have an overtired little boy trying desperately to keep himself upright or a late-napping little boy who's cranky the rest of the night. I hope he starts taking naps there soon. Also, I think the language difference is going to take some getting used to this time. His vocabulary in English has gotten so much bigger since Levi was born, so now he needs to figure out there is more than one way to say balloon or apple or shoe. I'm not worried about that. It will be amazing to see when and how he gets it and starts growing his Spanish vocabulary too.
We didn't really practice feeding Levi with a bottle too often, and he hasn't taken to it very well. On Wednesday he only took 3 oz of milk from a bottle. Dirk keeps telling me that no baby ever died of starvation from refusing a bottle, but I still felt awful when I heard that. One thing that makes it easier is that the baby-sitter lives close enough for me to feed Levi on my lunch break. I just have 25 minutes, so it's hectic but definitely worth it.
Whew. All that to say I'm very grateful that the transition back has been gradual like this. I can handle a schedule with 2 days of work and 4 days off. The news did say there was no break to the winter weather in sight.... Now if only I could motivate myself to get the house clean and organized and spend less time trying to decide how to spend the birthday money shoe fund. :)
