He is definitely very particular. He hated the orthodontic ones. But there was one he liked, a round shape, and he just went to town on that one while I folded clothes. Cool! I could tell at one point he was getting sleepy, and I was glad he could relax a little. Poor guy has been up a lot at night and hurting. I was hoping he would feel better after that first tooth popped through, but another little swelling in the bottom gums makes it seem like the second one is close behind, so I guess we'll try not to expect too much sleep for a little while. Boo. At least with things like that there is an end in sight. Sort of. It's funny-- I want him to slow down and not grow so fast, but there's always some tension that will be resolved in the next stage, so going forward doesn't seem so bad.
Aside from dental discomforts, H is doing well... Getting bigger... rolling around... trying to sit up... When we're holding him reclined sometimes he tries to do a sit-up. He opens his eyes really wide and grunts and tries so hard to get upright-- no success yet, but it's not far off.
Here's a video of the first time Hendrik touched a beard... A friend from church is holding him, and I caught the tail end of a interaction in which H would reach out and touch Mark's face and then jerk his hand back and fuss a little. He didn't know what to make of the beard. The funny thing was he kept going back for more! He couldn't stop himself. I'm sure there's some life application there, right?
