I love the toy patterns in Susan Anderson's Itty Bitty Toys-- they are so creative! Here's the first one I made-- I know there will be more. :)

This has been in my to-do list since we moved in February. All I needed to do was sew the dust ruffle to a sturdier backing, but I just never got around to it. Sometimes if I let a project languish, I get overwhelmed just thinking about starting it, and I build it up to be a lot worse in my mind than it really is. Darn perfectionism! Well, this one turned out pretty easy. I just used an old sheet/drop cloth and did what I could. And whew, am I relieved to have it done. There are other things I'd rather be making.
I'm so excited to have these done! The pattern is the KCK One from Kayla's Cloth Kits.... We want to use cloth diapers as much as we can, but starting a stash can be really pricey. When a good friend mentioned that she was going to knit diaper covers, I thought-- hmm. I bet you can make diapers, too. Sure enough, there are a dizzying array of websites devoted to just this, with a lot of experienced moms who have really different opinions on what works best. I did as much research as I could handle, and then just jumped in and chose a pattern and fabric.
I chose this pattern because it's one size fits 8-40 lbs-- I didn't want to have to cut out different sizes. In my picture here the ones on top are folded down to the smaller size, and the one on the bottom is the bigger size. I'm also glad it uses velcro because I didn't want to buy a snap press. You can buy diaper cuts of the waterproof PUL fabric, but it's cheaper to just buy it by the yard. With the fabrics I used each yard gets me 6 diapers. Each diaper+insert ended up running me about $7.50 to make. Not too bad! Dirk let me order supplies for another six diapers, and I'm planning to make another set or two after that, so hopefully we'll have a nice little bunch of them by the time we need them. :) |
