Hendrik first.
The big news in your world, little dude, is that you're walking. We knew it was close. For weeks I had been instructing baby-sitters not to tell me if you took any steps on your own for them. So therefore (and I think for real) I got to see your first ones! It was after school on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. You stood up and then took a step and started scream laughing. You did that a several times in a row, so proud of yourself. Since then you've just gotten steadier and steadier, but you still remind us of these guys:
Last weekend you and I drove up to your Grandma & Grandpa's house, and then we all spent an afternoon at IKEA. It was a lot of fun-- especially for me. We managed to get lost on the second floor, where all the exit signs pointed in circles and we started doing laps and recognizing things over and over again. We did finally get out (me $20 under budget-- yess), and then we had a lovely dinner with my Uncle Dennis, Aunt Maureen and cousins Matt and Danny. The next day you had a doctor's appointment, so we got home for that and found out that you weigh 26 pounds now. I knew you were heavy.
We learned about Hendrik's little brother or sister around Easter-- so joyful. And then it was a couple weeks' wait until my first appointment with the nurse and another really loooooong wait until we saw the doctor for the first time. That didn't happen until May 31, when I was not quite 15 weeks along! I do really love going to a family doctor for prenatal care, but the practice I go to doesn't have you come in until the end of the first trimester. So I had been feeling movement by the time we actually heard the heartbeat. The doctor even got kicked during the appointment. After that we were finally ready to share the happy news. I'm feeling great. The nausea and most of the fatigue seem to be gone for now. And summer vacation is wonderful. Next week I start up with summer school work, but it will be a much lighter load than during the school year, so that's good. We are thankful and blessed! |
